Electric fields surround every conductor when carrying a current. The ability to see the lines is very instructive, and the fields surrounding two conductors close to each other are vital in the design of equipment, especially if they carry different currents.
The electric field mapper is an easy to use versatile piece of equipment that enables students to plot such fields and calculate the relative charges. Everything needed to conduct this experiment, apart from a laboratory power supply, is in the kit, along with detailed instructions.
Each kit comes with five sheets of electrical conducting paper (additional sheets may be purchased, see item P637) and one sheet of carbon copy paper. A sheet of plain white A4 copy paper will also be required.
